The new year, amazingly, is less than 90 days away! As people close out their years with the holidays, eventually thoughts will turn toward new ideas for the new year. Homeowners will want to renovate their homes to take advantage of new technologies and stay on trend. Home builders and contractors will have to keep up with the latest kitchen design trends to stay competitive in a hot market. So, which trends are worth keeping an eye on next year? Here are five that we expect to take off.
1. New Cooking Ranges
As we’ve discussed before, the use of induction cooktops is rising since they can heat up much faster than a traditional cooktop, which helps homeowners cook meals faster and gives them more time to spend with their families. Another trend currently growing in the kitchen design realm is the implementation of appliances to allow for sous vide cooking in the home. Once strictly the domain of restaurant kitchens, new ranges with built-in sous vide cookers are popping up on the market and should become more popular as homeowners look to stay on-trend with their appliance choices.
2. Tall Column Refrigerators
Tall column refrigerators have been a staple of kitchen design for commercial and luxury kitchens for a few years now, but more brands are starting to offer them and we anticipate it will become a great choice for homeowners of all stripes. They excel primarily due to their flexibility – the homeowner can purchase wider freezer columns if they need the additional space.
3. Stylish Metal Choices for Fixtures
While chrome and brass have been staple materials for faucets and other fixtures for years, nowadays homeowners are spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing metal materials. Just about any color is possible, from rose gold to matte black. This allows designers a wide latitude in the aesthetic of a kitchen, so it’s best to talk to the homeowner and get a feel for their design preferences before suggesting a metal finish for their fixtures.
4. The Return of Terrazzo
Just as with fixtures, homeowners have a lot of choices when choosing materials for their countertops and backsplash. There is, however, a classic material currently making a comeback – terrazzo, which is a material made with chips of glass, marble, and other materials embedded within. Available either polished or matted, implementing this material well brings a refined, classic aesthetic to any kitchen.
5. Smart Appliances
The Internet of Things (IoT) phenomenon is continuing to grow as more appliances hit the market with smart features. While these features were somewhat disappointing at first, the technology has improved significantly and can now be integrated with an Amazon Alexa or Google Home device for more convenience!
