New Dishwasher

In the market for a new dishwasher? Here are some of the features you should look out for as you shop around and compare units!

The dishwasher is an appliance most of us take for granted nowadays. However, when something goes wrong with the unit or we otherwise have to live without one for a while, you quickly realize just how important and convenient our dishwashers are! If you’re shopping for a new dishwasher, you should take the time to do your research on the features that are available just as you would for a more prominent appliance such as a refrigerator. That way, you’ll get a unit that fits your family size and lifestyle and is able to handle all of your cleaning needs. Let’s take a closer look at some of the features you should consider if you’re in the market for a new dishwasher.

Most would say that the capacity of your dishwasher is the most important feature to look at when shopping for a new dishwasher. There are two sizes available – the 18-inch dishwasher is considered compact, while the 24-inch units are standard-sized. Most will opt for the larger capacity available in the 24-inch models, but an 18-inch unit has some application in smaller kitchens or home wet bars.

Noise Considerations

A quiet dishwasher is one of the most requested features we get and for good reason! You’ll want to compare the dB(A) rating of the dishwashers to get an idea of how quiet they will be – a rating in the low 40s is considered pretty quiet.

Racking Options

Standard dishwashers come with two racks, but you’ll find that there are also units with three racks out there that squeeze as much storage capacity for your dishes as possible. Adjustable/removable tines, racks that can hold taller glasses and other items, and removable shelves ensure that you can fit just about anything into the unit.

Washing Cycles

Dishwashers come with a variety of different cycle settings available that allow for specialized cleaning of specific kitchen implements. The most important cycles to look for are light wash, regular wash, heavy wash, and economy, but you’ll also see options for stemware cleaning, quick wash, sanitize, and pot scrub, among others. These units can cost more, but if you see yourself using these cycles regularly, it might make a lot of sense to purchase one.

Energy Efficiency

The Energy Star symbol is recognized throughout the industry as an indicator of energy efficiency. You’ll want to look for this if saving energy is a priority feature for you.
